The Common Yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas) is a widespread breeding bird in North America, including northern Mexico, with noticeable geographic plumage variations. Birds from both eastern and western North American populations winter in Guatemala, where they are most common in the lowlands and foothills. This male was seen at 3300 m in the western highlands of Guatemala, during spring migration. Its grayish upperparts combined with the whitish frontal band and the reduced area of yellow on the chest, identify this bird as part of the population of northwestern North America, probably of the subspecies campicola.Archive of photographs of the month
