Black-and-white Warbler Mniotilta varia

Black-and-white Warbler
"Designer bird": Black-and-white Warbler (Mniotilta varia) is a common wintering bird in Guatemala. This monotypic warbler (the only species in the genus Mniotilta) is special in several ways. It forages along the bark of tree trunks and branches in a manner similar to nuthatches. With its striking bicolored plumage it is a stunner, calling special attention in any mixed flock to birders visiting the Americas for the first time.
