Guatemala City is the start and end point of most of our tours, because the international airport is situated there. The town has been the capital of the country since 1776.
Guatemala City is a noisy, large and polluted town with more than 2 million inhabitants. It is situated on a plateau with the horizon characterized by mountain chains and volcanoes.
The city is divided in zones. Zone 1 harbors the historic center. Restoration efforts have been made in order to give back to this 18th century buildings the color and life that they used to have. In the present, this and many other areas have expanded to give place to development and business, like the "Zona Viva" - the Live Zone - where many hotels, restaurants, specialized libraries and shops, and nightclubs are situated.
Since some decades Guatemala City has been the objective of migration of indigenous and ladino people from the interior of the country in the seek of jobs. This is the reason for what you will witness the mix of indigenous customs and ladino wear in most of the city.

Accommodation: In Guatemala City you will stay in a comfortable hotel in a tranquil neighborhood, which includes bed and breakfast service, private bathrooms with hot water, minibar, safety box in each room. Close to the hotel there is a high variety of restaurants.
