Birding Guatemala City with CAYAYA BIRDING

Guatemala City is the start and end point of most of our tours, because the largest of the country's international airports is located here. Guatemala City is noisy, large and polluted, with more than two million inhabitants.

Guatemala City
The beautiful skyline of volcanoes and mountain ridges around Guatemala City is only visible from few points within town. From your air plane window, however, views can be impressive during your flight into or out of Guatemala City.

Guatemala City is located at 1500 m (4900 ft), in the heart of the Endemic Bird Area EBA 018 (North Central American Highlands). Several birding sites in the surroundings of Guatemala City provide opportunities to see regional endemics such as Rufous-collared Robin, Blue-throated Motmot, Rufous-browed Wren, Black-capped Swallow, as well as birds restricted to the Sierra Madre mounatian range and northern Central America, such as Gray Silky-Flycatcher, Hooded Grosbeak, and Amethyst-throated Hummingbird.

Several great birding sites are accessible from Guatemala City within day tour distance.
